In 1997, NASA launched a spacecraft the size of a school bus, to travel one billion miles through our solar system to the sixth planet known as Saturn. It's mission was to explore the huge gas giant, its moons and the planet's unique rings, send back scientific data and to take some up-close-and-personal photographs of the encounters.

It was truly a successful mission, and the resulting information is still being processed and analyzed today. Beautiful pictures can be seen on NASA's government website, but here we offer sonic images to tickle your ears. The entire trip took seven years, so Cassini didn't reach its destination until the year 2004.

Considering all the things that could have gone wrong, and of course there were minor distractions along the way, Cassini behaved most admirably and gave to the scientists watching, the most information that was possible for this amazing visit to our outer solar system.

This track is dedicated to the time between 1997 and 2004, when this spacecraft left Earth until it arrived at Saturn to begin its job of exploration.
