about

Many people were looking forward to the next IEMA collective tape project. On this release, there are 15 track from various artists who were experimenting, or had established themselves with prior releases of their own making. Gil Trythall was a surprise then, and he is still making interesting sounds as displayed on Google Plus. Don Slepian, one of the founding members and staff member, had been selling his music on cassette tape since the late 1970s. Mychael Danna, later signed to Hearts of Space, submitted the tapes he was working on with Tim Clement. Jack Schrage was producing music LPs with his friend, Lew Corelis, under the moniker Musik Werks, and later released a cassette compilation of their music before leaving the scene. Fans of Tape #1 will rejoice in the inclusion of more music from Leon Lowman.

John Wiggins, who works for HBO, had collected some tapes of speech from Chris Meyer, David Vosh and Ken Moore, and produced a project which he called "Spokes". Side two of the original tape started off with interesting music from the mysterious No-Y-Z. Mike Roden, who had been drawing comic book-like sketches, came up with some original music to share. Chris Gross, who is still making music, evidenced on Soundcloud, submitted two pieces. The tape ends with something from Denny Genovese, whose performance name was Allswell Freeman.

All in all, it is another great adventure into the unknown realm of electronic music, as it stood in the early 1980s. Many people wrote about the tape project, and I am sure, most of the artists represented here, benefitted from the exposure received from the Group Tape distribution, as directed by myself [Ken Moore] for Anvil Creations Studio.
