about

In 2012 Ken began collecting huge gongs, or more specifically, tam-tams. The very first one was a 48" Zildjian and the a 40" Dobani. He had already owned smaller Wuhan wind gongs, but these larger instruments produced such a dramatic sound that he was immediately obsessed with collecting a variety of sizes and makes. The first 4 volumes of Heavy Metal are available on his Moore/Myers site, and all are unmodified recordings made in his home studio, Anvil Creations. This one also consists of non-altered sessions with various size tam-tams, and includes a bonus track at the end of a more experimental production with an 18" Sabian flat ride that has been modified for hanging as a "gong". There is also one recording each using a 20" Earth Ride, which looks more like a gong with the bell protruding in the center, a UFIP and an Abex cymbal from Italy.
