about

The year was 1984, and the day was June 16. The band, formerly called Kameleon, had changed their name to Runner in hopes of adding a vocalist. Still an instrumental band here, Runner was booked at a local club in Baltimore called Wildwood [in Woodlawn]. The band was started by Wayne Myers and Mark Mulvey, who together had written a handful of songs, later adding bassist, Mark Chance, who promised to invite his friend, Ken Moore, to join the band. Ken brought with him several keyboards, along with numerous songs that he had written for his own band (Captain Felix). Mark Mulvey's brother, Sean, recorded the event with a rather large video camera. Mike Prezioso was starting a business providing lights for live bands, and offered to do smoke for the event as well. As a result, the video is quite hard to see the members of the band, but the soundtrack is preserved as a documentation of their live performance.

Another friend, Rick Spink, recorded the music using a portable cassette deck. Ken had a copy of Sean's video, and a copy of the cassette, so following these tracks are a series of bonus tracks taken from the cassette that was made by Rick. An unexplainable change in speed haunts side two and the last song, Kameleon, was not included. Also, Centipede Attack fades out before it ends, but he did have Time To Cross, which was missing from the video tape.

The end result is a documentation of Runner's most famous appearance in the Baltimore music scene. The band had indeed added a singer after this event, but broke up less than a year later without ever performing with vocals live. Some of those songs can be heard on "Ken Moore Groups" on the MooreMyers Bandcamp site.
