about

This project was started by Dave Vosh, who wanted to collaborate with Ken and Daniel. Recordings were sent from Dave to Ken via the US Mail. Ken shared some of Dave's files with Dan using email, who after selecting a few, began to record his own interpretations on the double bass. Dan's excellent playing inspired Ken to add his own brand of stretched samples to complement the bass, and played a drum set with Dan's single piano app recording.

Canes Venatici is one of the constellations designated by the international Astronomical Union. CVn contains five Messier objects, including four galaxies. Cor Caroli is the constellation's brightest star. The Whirlpool Galaxy is a spiral galaxy tilted face-on for observers on Earth. Chara is the second brightest star. La Superba is one of the reddest naked-eye stars, and one of the brightest carbon stars. The Sunflower Galaxy was named for its appearance in large amateur telescopes. Ton 618 is a hyper- luminous quasar and blazar in this constellation. Tuiren is a 12th magnitude G-type main-sequence star estimated to be approximately 958 light-years from Earth. It is also noteworthy that Ton 618 possesses a black hole with a mass 66 billion times that of our Sun.

On this recording, Daniel has given us some of his best double bass improvisations, while listening to segments submitted by Dave, and prepared for recording by Ken. After Daniel's work was done, Ken then added some of his unique sounds, using a method that he is currently exploring. The end result is meant to showcase the creative execution of the double bass, with the exception of the track using a piano app. On that track, Ken also improvised his contribution using a drum kit.
